    Around the table…

Thanksgiving 2012 was spent with new friends.  After four trips in a six week time period between September and October we decided to stay put for Thanksgiving.  We were road weary and I had been sick for three weeks in between trips.  It was time to take it easy plus we had some pet sitting to do for those who had taken care of our cats while we were gone.

We mentioned we would be in town while visiting the Marine Consignment Store downtown in Oriental and Matt, one of the new owners, mentioned they were having a potluck and we were more than welcome.  We had met Matt and Douglass a couple of years ago while they were at Northwest Creek Marina where we have kept both of our boats.  Matt and Douglass are well, just downright F-U-N!

By the time the guest list had reached twenty people, there were suggestions of assigned recipes and making it a formal sit down with china and silver.  So this was not your typical potluck.  There were many gluten free offerings since many of the guests are wheat intolerant and well, it was all delicious.  Douglass went all out on the invitations and organized the menu…it all turned out beautifully and fun was had by all I believe.  The guests were from far and wide, as Oriental attracts a lot of sailors who started their lives in far flung reaches.  It was a warm and cozy atmosphere, and well, it was made even warmer by Douglass’ incredible egg nog…

Douglass’ egg nog was the bomb!

Hope Thanksgiving was wonderful for you and yours as well!
